About Me

My name is Almasi and I am the ONLY Traditional WOMAN Woodcarving Artist in Lamu Island, Kenya. I received my training in Traditional Swahili Woodcarving from master carvers right here on the island (Learn more here & here).

I was captivated by the craftsmanship that went into the creation of the world renowned Swahili Lamu Doors and got inspired to leave my life behind in the city and move to this beautiful island, to specifically learn woodcarving. I am moved to create everyday home goods hand-carved with beautiful swahili folk art designs. These products can be looked at and handled daily, and hopefully, bring about that spark of joy, that little smile to elevate your day.

It is my utmost excitement to spread the beauty of this amazing craft through teaching it through my beginner woodcarving classes and through some fun walking tours around Lamu Island! It is my promise to you to create inspired products & to leave you charged and feeling accomplished, through my workshops and classes!
